I was introduced to Rosie and Faris during my time at UAL as I studied my MA in Advertising. They were the duo who presented to us the relevant topics that the advertising industry was facing, or predicted to face, to chose from as the basis of building our Final Major Project.
Seeing how diversity and culture is a widespread issue and may always be an issue that is difficult to tackle, I chose to base my research on how young working class creatives in London are struggling to get into the advertising industry. As a young creative myself, it was a passion project for both myself and those facing similar struggles whilst trying to enter the ever competitive and challenging industry. It’s also how I ended up here guest creating some content for the pair along side some of my fellow classmates :) Full dissertation can be read here!
Editor’s Note (Genius Steals): We always love when we get to host students and recent graduates here, especially if they came from Paul Caplan’s program at the London College of Communication! Thanks for being here today, Ozlem!

AR OVER NETFLIX
The launch and growth of Netflix has already created a generation of viewers who rarely watch broadcasted television, with augmented reality now threatening to change the viewing landscape once again. Understanding the constant viewing demographic changes and that viewers want to be apart of the experience, F1 are now exploring how to engage the new and younger viewers within the sport. From using VR headsets to view the race and creating dashboards that use realtime data, F1 hopes it can create an all round better viewing experience that allows fans to feel apart of the energetic atmosphere, even if they are watching from home. HAVE WE HEARD ENOUGH?
The huge growth in podcasts over the recent years has opened for another realm of audio based advertising. Despite radio stations playing ads for years, they are less likely to be able to tap into specific consumer interests due to the sheer size of their listening base. However, as podcasts grow, it questions as to whether these smaller, but also just as popular, audio spaces are able to tap into their niche and more manageble audience sizes in order to provide ads of more interest. WE DON’T GROW INTO CREATIVITY, WE GROW OUT OF IT
There are constantly opposing stories of how there is an employment crisis in the world of the creative industries but all whilst actively being aware that education does not pay enough attention to the development of creative talents. Not only do some educational institutions not give enough time for creative to breed, but also may discourage it to focus on more academic and STEM based subjects and career paths. It's no new discovery yet, it is a problem that is continuously occurring and effecting the young creative entering the industry. (The Drum)

It's called Genius Steals because we believe ideas are new combinations and that nothing can come from nothing. But copying is lazy. We believe the best way to innovate is to look at the best of that which came before and combine those elements into new solutions.
Co-Founders Faris & Rosie are award-winning strategists and creative directors, writers, consultants and public speakers who have been living on the road/runway since March 2013, working with companies all over the world. Our Director of Operations is nomadic like us, our accounting team is based out of Washington, our company is registered in Tennessee, and our collaborators are all over the world. Being nomadic allows us to go wherever clients need us to be, and to be inspired by the world in between.
