Hello Beautiful Human,
I'm Amanda Rue, and it's so lovely to guest curate this edition of Genius Steals!
Having known and followed the work of Rosie & Faris for most of my career, I was so thrilled, and honestly very humbled when they reached out. Rosie and I are in a shared Slack community, and I was getting the word out about the results of an annual study I run, The 2022 State of Sexual Harassment Study, and I am grateful now also to share this with you!
Three years ago I started this survey as a way to build credibility for my business, The Shift Work Shop, an HR consultancy offering anti-sexist training and sexual harassment prevention. As a strategist and researcher, I couldn't find any existing research or insight that really explored what I wanted to know which was really looking at intimate relationships in the workplace and the prevalence of sexism and sexual harassment. As a victim of abuse of power in the workplace myself, and having shared this with the NY Times in the height of the #MeToo movement, I had a craving to be a part of the solution and provide more human, relatable and engaging training and harm-reduction in our workplaces.
Since we're in the presence of friends, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Most of the work I do in this business is informed and inspired by my work under my pseudonym, Rev.Rucifer where I teach, facilitate and create events and experiences designed to release shame and come into a more conscious connection with our own pleasure and erotic energy. I teach about kink, BDSM, power dynamics, intimacy, boundaries, communication, consent and care, all in service of helping people to live their fullest and most expressed lives.
I realize now that the single thing that connects all my work to help make the world a safer and more open and loving space is developing healthy sexual values that extend from the bedroom to the boardroom. I want nothing more than for you to experience all that life has to offer by listening to the desires of your heart and understanding the impact of your actions in creating safer, more inclusive spaces for everyone.
Editor’s Note (Rosie): Amanda does work in an especially important area: sexual harassment prevention training. As part of her work in this space, she's written up a report from their latest survey on sexual harassment. She also tackles the idea of intimacy at work more broadly, and speaks to some of the challenges of training around these topics. Thanks so much for being here, Amanda, and for your work in this space!

COMPREHENSIVE RESEOURCES
This is the single most comprehensive list of resources related to consent that I have ever found. Misha is a wonderful educator and leader of creating safer spaces, and much of this work has informed my own practices around consent, communication and community care. This includes resources not just on consent, but how to be accountable, respond to call-outs, and ways to incorporate these practices into your events, workplaces and private gatherings. Consent is not just for our private lives. We can transform our workplaces when we start practicing social consent in all our affairs, and we might even end up being better communicators! THE DRAMA TRIANGLE
This video was just shared in another slack group I am in, and I learned about the concept of The Drama Triangle just over a year ago, but never really found resources to help get out of it or break the cycle. In this video we learn about the victim, rescuer, and persecutor roles to help us understand the dysfunctional behavioral patterns we play as a sort of “game”, as well as tactics each role can employ to help break these relational patterns and programming. I won't admit to which one I tend to be, but grateful for some new tactics to try! This pattern of behavior can manifest in your workplaces, organizations or private relationships, and serves as a good reminder that we all have more control than we think over our relationships & dynamics. THE 2022 STATE OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT STUDY BY THE SHIFT WORK SHOP
This year we had more respondents that ever with 1,656 anonymous people participating this year. Unfortunately, the results are not great and we see that 53% of respondents experienced sexual harassment in the last 12 months. Additionally, we see that BIPOC employees are most likely to face harassment, and remote work has a negative correlation to experiencing harassment, meaning that remote workers were more likely than in-person employees to experience sexual harassment. You'll also find some staggering stats about just how pervasive relationships in the workplace are with 77% noting they have had a sexual or romantic relationship with a co-worker at some point in their career.
I am a firm believer that we cannot change what we don't know, so this helps to set a baseline and inform our training effort and progress moving forward. We won't fix this today, but together we can help create safer spaces for every one to feel valued, honored and appreciated for exactly who they are. (The Shift Workshop)

It's called Genius Steals because we believe ideas are new combinations and that nothing can come from nothing. But copying is lazy. We believe the best way to innovate is to look at the best of that which came before and combine those elements into new solutions.
