Strands of Genius: Dominic Tremblay + The 2030 Forcast
featuring: an interview with our guest editor and a research report
Welcome to the Bonus edition of Strands of Genius! On Fridays, we’ll be publishing interviews from our guest editors, and sharing a research report. Thanks for being along for the ride. Oh and by the way, you look great today :)
:: STEAL THIS THINKING | RESEARCH REPORT ::
Let’s be honest: forecasting is always an iffy proposition, no matter who does it, how much data we analyze, and how many trends we consider. Too many variables can change the trajectory of what might seem a rock-solid conclusion. Both “known unknowns” and “unknown unknowns” pile up as time advances and can turn a forecast into a fool’s errand.
:: DIVE IN | THE INTERVIEW ::
DOMINIC TREMBLAY, CEO & CO-FOUNDER TUX CREATIVE CO.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what keeps you busy. How did you end up doing what you’re doing today?
I am a life enthusiast. I find happiness in a variety of experiences and consider myself very lucky. I am married to a wonderful man and have two amazing children. I recently relocated to California and am building a life here. In 2010, my husband and I founded TUX Creative House as a new alternative and more agile type of agency. Today we are surrounded by almost a hundred talented and inspiring people.
What excites you most about what you do?
So many things excite me in what I do. I truly enjoy meeting people and building new projects, new businesses.
What beliefs define your approach to work? How would you define your leadership style?
I believe in progress and the journey excites me. As a leader I give a lot of freedom to my team and love seeing them grow. The entrepreneur journey is full of challenges so I think it is essential to stay positive and solution minded.
What has been the most rewarding project you’ve worked on and why?
Starting my company has definitely been hugely rewarding. After a 10-year career at a large beauty group (L'Oreal), it was easy to have doubts about my capacity to build a business on my own.
We are big believers in diversity -- Not only because we believe in equality, but because we also think it’s better for business. How do you frame these kinds of conversations, both internally and with clients? Is there an emphasis on action, or are the conversations really more about communication?
Diversity is a big deal for us as an LGBTQ+ supplier. Our company is part of several diverse supplier organizations and is very active in the field. It is a foundational part of our cie and although we still have a lot to do, I believe we are doing better every year.
Switching gears a bit, how do you find time to balance personal interests with your career? Do you believe work/life balance is possible? Anything you’ve implemented that you recommend that others try?
I think one of the most important skills of a CEO is to be good at space design. No one can design my schedule but myself. I need to always keep an eye on the weight of each Pillars of my life. Family, friends, business, personal. They are all important and have to be in balance most of the time. I think a good balanced life is essential for longevity.
What’s your media diet? Where do you find inspiration?
I follow the words of Winnie the Pooh. Very little news, mostly entertaining social content like keeping up with friends, discovering new recipes and workout routines.
What’s the best piece of advice/knowledge you’ve stolen, and who/where’d you steal it from?
In business, it is better to have a small boat on a huge lake than a huge boat on a small lake.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
My small pleasures: Rupaul Drag Race and Selling Sunset.
