:: A BIT MORE ABOUT GUEST CURATOR, LYNN MURPHY ::
LOCATION: London, UK
PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT: adam&eveDDB
Hi! I'm Lynn & I'm an Assistant Integrated Producer at adam&eveDDB. I'm also a recent MA Advertising graduate of the University of the Arts London which is how I know Rosie, Faris, & Ashley!
Editor’s Note (Team Genius Steals): Over the years, we've worked with Paul Caplan who is a Course Leader MA Advertising at London College of Communication. This year we're so excited to be introducing you to some of the students who've recently participated in his program. Their dissertations were thought provoking and have us excited about the future minds of our industry. Thanks for curating some great links, Lynn!
:: THE LINKS ::
IMPROVING DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
This is my dissertation: 'How Can the Advertising Industry Improve Its Diversity and Inclusion Efforts for People with Disabilities?' It's about a thirty-minute read but it'll be worth it. I promise you'll learn something new & please let me know what you think - I can't unlearn everything that I now know from writing this & am dedicated to continue doing what I can to make this industry as accessible & inclusive as it should be but I need as much help as I can get! (Lynn Murphy)
DISABILITY IN THE WORKPLACE
This is Lesa Bradshaw's eye-opening TEDx Talk about disability in the workplace which had me applauding in the silent study area of UAL's library last summer. I practically transcribed the entire thing whilst taking notes but my favourite quote has to be "you don't actually have the disability until you're placed in a context that disables you" - this totally transformed my frame of thinking & the way I approached the rest of my research (& life). (TEDx Talks)
DEAF IDENTITY IN A PRIMARILY NON-DISABLED WORLD
This is a project titled 'Big Deaf' by Chella Man, a Deaf artist, director, & author who I have been following for a few years now. I love this project & how he explores his Deaf identity in relation to its existence in a primarily non-disabled world - it is a very intimate & un-edited insight into his life which I find very inspiring. This is another TED Talk! This is by sound artist Christine Sun Kim who uses her experience of deafness to explore the role of sound (& silence!) in society. It's beautiful.

It's called Genius Steals because we believe ideas are new combinations and that nothing can come from nothing. But copying is lazy. We believe the best way to innovate is to look at the best of that which came before and combine those elements into new solutions.
Co-Founders Faris & Rosie are award-winning strategists and creative directors, writers, consultants and public speakers who have been living on the road/runway since March 2013, working with companies all over the world. Our Director of Operations is nomadic like us, our accounting team is based out of Washington, our company is registered in Tennessee, and our collaborators are all over the world. Being nomadic allows us to go wherever clients need us to be, and to be inspired by the world in between.
