:: A BIT MORE ABOUT GUEST CURATOR, STEVEN ROSENBAUM ::
LOCATION: New York, US
PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT: NYC Media Lab
Hi I'm Steven Rosenbaum. I'm a Maker. I've been making Media since I was about 12 years old. I haven't changed much, but Media certainly has. Back then I made films with a Super8 film camera. Then I made magic, then radio, then tv, then streaming video, then events and convening. Wrote two books, won two Emmys. It's always been about storytelling - it's just the tools that change. I like change - it's where we're going. I think a lot about the future of Truth.
Editor’s Note (Team Genius Steals): We met and befriended Steve during the heady days at the end of noughties in NYC, when the tech and advertising worlds blended together at the edges and there were many parties. He was the founder of a UGC platform and we were very into those creator driven democratized creativity crowd sourcing ideas too. After we left he went through various different interesting roles, always playing with story and media and technology, with TED and EY and many others. He recently reconnected to invite us to an event being hosted by the NYC Media Lab, which he now runs, and we’re delighted to have him.

IS YOUR AI TELLING THE TRUTH?
Your AI can't tell you it's lying if it thinks it's telling the truth. That's a problem. Machine learning's abiding weakness is verification. Is your AI telling the truth? How can you tell? This matters as AI takes over all the places where you input data, or ask for the results. Try "Alexa: tell me the truth about democracy" answer: "I'm not sure I understand that." That won't last long. (The Register)
DEFUNDING DISINFORMATION
Disinformation is a profitable business, and one of the most effective ways to slow its spread is to take away the advertising money unwittingly funding it. Danny Rogers isn't a theoretician, he founded the Global Disinformation Index. (Cosmos Magazine)
HE’S MAKING NEWS - FOR THE FUTURE
This is a great trip in the time machine, back to MTV Unfiltered. It was user-generated news, before YouTube was born. It was fun. (Fast Company)

It's called Genius Steals because we believe ideas are new combinations and that nothing can come from nothing. But copying is lazy. We believe the best way to innovate is to look at the best of that which came before and combine those elements into new solutions.
