THE WORD | THESE BRIEF BITS OF INBOX INSPIRATION BROUGHT TO YOU BY...
Congratulations to Satish & Piyali on the wonderful occasion of their nuptials! We were thrilled to be included in the celebrations and we're sending big hugs to them and all their family & friends. Also thanks to Agnipadma Fashion (who made Rosie's outfit for the wedding), Shaile for all the great yoga in Rishikesh, Mahesh for a lovely Delhi dinner, Hilltop, Big Mouth Season 3 & Living With Yourself [Netflix - Great], Jennifer Government [a fun novel about the a future where brands run mostly everything], burfi, thalis, dosas and India in general. It's been great, we'll be back.
WHAT WE'RE THINKING ABOUT | TRAVEL WELLNESS
It has been 'relatively' easy to be healthy in Rishikesh because there's isn't much else to do, it's a dry city, we came here specifically to do yoga twice a day, the class is in the building we sleep in, and eating less is way easier when not in USA, for lots of reasons. Context matters.
But now we are headed back on the road -- and maintaining some level of healthy activity and consumption is much harder when you are bouncing from airport lounge to airplane and not staying anywhere for more than a few days. People say one way to avoid jetlag is to fast while flying and reset your eating clock, but frankly if you fly as often as we do, the prospect is daunting.
Travel days can involve several flights and the spectre of being hangry is always there, especially when dealing with the highly variable security at different airports, and the interesting lack of correspondence between what apps, screens and Google says about flight timings. As Matthew says in Big Mouth Seasons 3: "Kissing Jay is like eating McDonald's at the airport. It doesn't f**king count."
Ultimately, of course, all those are excuses, and we have had to find ways to balance emotional and physical needs as we roam the world. The key thing being balance. Being super healthy suits us some of the time, and sometimes we want to indulge. Having resets is nice to change the parameters of what you brain and body have come to consider defaults, because defaults matter.
We tend to return towards baselines, especially when in the same context, under the same stresses, day in day out. Retreats are great, but the key is changing that baseline.
"Employers need to shift to organization-level approaches for reducing stress at work, ones that foster employee well-being while simultaneously improving business performance. "

Learning the Right Lessons From Adidas
#BalancedMedia #Structures #Incentives
Adidas’ global media director bravely spoke about their mistake in over-investing in digital and performance marketing and under investing in brand. So far, so obvious. The real question is why? Faris wrote this article for the Economic Times of India to see if we can learn something more interesting about the organizational conditions that lead to such decisions. ::ECONOMIC TIMES BRAND EQUITY::
Stress Makes You Less Creative
#Work #Agency #Relax
Stress - caused by "unclear expectations, unreasonable deadlines, or a hectic workspace" [which sounds uncomfortably like an agency] makes people nearly three times as likely to leave their jobs, temporarily impairs strategic thinking, and dulls creative abilities. Here are 11 tips for managers to create an environment that reduces stress. ::HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW::
ICYMI: Mark Pollard's Strategy Is Your Words
#FriendOfGS #ContinuingEducation #Kickstarter
Rosie had the privilege of getting to work with Mark Pollard at Saatchi & Saatchi, and neither of us are shy about singing Mark's praises. He's been working on what he's calling a "deskbook," a practical strategy resource that lives on your desk (not a business book that you read once and put away on a shelf), for the past year or so. And now, he's taking pre-orders on Kickstarter. We're proud to say we're the 3rd backer for this campaign, and can't wait to see the final product. ::KICKSTARTER::
The gorgeous frontispiece from Satish & Piyali's wedding invitation. CONGRATS!
If we can ever be of help to you, even outside of a formal engagement, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We always love getting to meet like-minded folks, so please let us know if you see if we'll be in a city near you :)
