Strands of Genius: Proofreading Tips, #YearInSearch2020, A Lesson in Making Priorities
Guest curated by Jurate Limontaite
This year we’re aiming to highlight 50 creative thinkers that have inspired us, by giving them the opportunity to guest curate this newsletter, Strands of Genius. Jurate and Rosie first connected during a summer strategy bootcamp, and now Jūratė is the Community & Content Strategist in Residence for the School of Stolen Genius!
:: A BIT MORE ABOUT GUEST CURATOR, JURATE LIMONTAITE ::
LOCATION: Guernsey, Channel Islands
PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT: TPA
In my life I truly believe things happen for a reason, and once upon a time I went to a marketing conference in London and I found a book Faris wrote - I loved it so much and because of Faris’ book I discovered the Genius Steals brand.
I then subscribed to the newsletter and was hoping that one day I will meet Rosie & Faris in-real-life. While this hasn’t happened yet, I did have an opportunity to connect with Rosie & Faris on various occasions. They truly inspire me, every-single-day!
Did I ever think that I would be guest curating the Strands of Genius? Never in my dreams could I have, however, life works in mysterious ways & somehow through just picking up a copy of “Paid Attention” a few years ago, this has finally “paid” off :)
A little bit about me: I am a proud Lithuanian who happens to be living off the coast of Normandy on a tiny island called Guernsey! I worked as a Pay-Per-Click Specialist (i.e. search, video, social ads) for the last four years, but have recently taken on an exciting new role as a Comms Planner. Outside of work you will find me: reading books, playing board games, hiking, practicing yoga, eating chocolate, or playing with puppies.
Editor’s Note (Genius Steals Team): We are so thrilled to have “met” Jūratė — even though we haven’t yet hugged it out in real life. She’s a lover of books (especially those that are related to advertising/marketing/psychology), travel (Vilnius, Lithuania, Barcelona, Spain, and Lisbon, Portugal are her faves), and the mountains (she’s even got a tattoo to prove it.)
Her day job is working at TPA, a digital marketing agency in the Channel Islands, but her background is varied -- from school and spectacles to banking and chocolate (yes, you do get free chocolate when you work for a chocolaterie, and you often pick the peanut butter and jelly milk chocolate, if you’re Jūratė.) She does her best work listening to deep house, but prefers podcasts and audiobooks for her walks.
Thank you, Jūratė!! We’re looking forward to our continued collaboration!

PROOFREADING TIPS TO CATCH MORE AVOIDABLE GOOFS
Sometimes we spend so much time on one piece of work (ie. article or presentation or report), and we eventually stop paying attention to what's written. When that happens we are more likely to oversee various mistakes. I find these 10 tips quite helpful, especially when I am on the clock and I need to proofread something. (Copyblogger)
#YEARINSEARCH2020
In times of uncertainty, people seek understanding and meaning. This year, the world searched “why” more than ever. This film (3 minutes long) features the questions we asked this year, with words and narration by Kofi Lost. (YouTube)
THE BIG ROCKS AND THE JAR: A LESSON IN MAKING PRIORITIES
This is a very well known example of how to set one’s priorities. With the new-year kicking-off now is a good time to set yourself some goals for 2021. (Ask Alana)

It's called Genius Steals because we believe ideas are new combinations and that nothing can come from nothing. But copying is lazy. We believe the best way to innovate is to look at the best of that which came before and combine those elements into new solutions.
Co-Founders Faris & Rosie are award-winning strategists and creative directors, writers, consultants and public speakers who have been living on the road/runway since March 2013, working with companies all over the world. Our Director of Operations is nomadic like us, our accounting team is based out of Washington, our company is registered in Tennessee, and our collaborators are all over the world. Being nomadic allows us to go wherever clients need us to be, and to be inspired by the world in between.
Hit reply and let’s talk about how we might be able to work together :)
