Strands of Genius: Voices of Women in Tech are Still Being Erased, Texting With Just Your Mind, Photography to Give the Marginalized a Voice
Guest curated by Lisa Marrone
This year we’re aiming to highlight 50 creative thinkers that have inspired us, by giving them the opportunity to guest curate this newsletter, Strands of Genius. Lisa is the founder and CEO of Revel.
:: A BIT MORE ABOUT GUEST CURATOR, Lisa Marrone ::
LOCATION: San Francisco, CA
PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT: Revel
I'm Lisa Marrone, the co-founder of Revel, an online community for women 40 and above. Founded in 2019, last year Fast Company named Revel one of the 10 Most Innovative Social Media Companies of 2020.
My partner, Alexa Wahr, and I founded Revel after I noticed working in Venture Capital that I was only hearing pitches from young people for young people and asked what can technology do for older adults?
Hope you enjoy today’s links!
Editor’s Note (Team Genius Steals): We were introduced to Lisa from a Strands reader and absolutely love what she and Revel are creating. Thank you for being here, Lisa!

THE VOICES OF WOMEN IN TECH ARE STILL BEING ERASED
Voice in tech remains precarious for women - from using a woman's voice without permission on TikTok to the impermanence of voice for female founders. (MIT Technology Review)
YOU COULD SOON BE TEXTING WITH JUST YOUR MIND, THANKS TO NEW RESEARCH
Technology may be able to return voice to those who have lost their voice. Using two different neural networks and intracranial electrodes, computer scientists and neuroscientists from UC San Francisco were able to translate neural activity into text with as low as three percent error. (PBS)

It's called Genius Steals because we believe ideas are new combinations and that nothing can come from nothing. But copying is lazy. We believe the best way to innovate is to look at the best of that which came before and combine those elements into new solutions.

Being nomadic allows us to go wherever clients need us to be, and to be inspired by the world in between.
