Judy&Erik, Greg & Katy's final days in Nashville, a visit from lovely Laila, Hocus Pocus, serendipitous Nashville encounters (like running into newsletter subscriber Paddy, from Havas, who worked for Rosie's old boss, randomly, in a bar in downtown Nashville, Frank&Mel, Lena, Marsh House, dancing at Honky Tonks, taco night with Scott&Teresa, 5 second rule, Fluffy&Louie, Danny & Jessi & the Sanctuary crew.
WHAT WE'RE THINKING ABOUT | BESPOKE VS BUYABLE
When we worked in the agency world, there was often a menu of services included in the creds deck we'd present at the pitch. The things included on that list were often similar, if not the same, from pitch to pitch. Which makes sense in some ways: You have specific services you know you can provide, and you're trying to sell them. But when we started Genius Steals, we intentionally decided we wouldn't have a creds deck, or a menu of services. We wanted to have the ability to think about the problem our clients faced, and propose a way that we might think through it -- acknowledging that the way we would approach this would be different from the way we might approach a different problem. It's been a contributing factor to some of our more interesting projects -- but it's also a barrier for many. There are plenty of people who just want to pick something from a menu of choices, and productizing something like thinking, with drastically different outputs, is tough. We don't have the answer, but we're thinking through this idea and trying to figure out if and how we might re-think things for 2020.
"To read a selection of articles on the internet, you’d think the only thing holding women back is their own inability to step forward, to Lean In, to shout about their worth. It’s a convenient way to dismiss the stark inequality we see across workplaces and homes – the lack of female decision-makers and leaders versus crowded numbers of women living in poverty and furthest from power. " - Sophie Walker

Most People Don't Want to Be Happy
#Behavior #Psychology #SatisfactionFTW
One of our favorite behavioral economists, Daniel Kahneman, explains the difference between happiness and satisfaction as such: Happiness is a momentary experience that arises spontaneously and is fleeting. Satisfaction, on the other hand, is a "long-term feeling, built over time and based on achieving goals and building the kind of life you admire." But maximizing against these two things sometimes means they're at odds with one another. When it comes to everyday happiness, spending time with friends is one of the best things you can do for yourself. But those who tend to focus on life satisfaction often neglect friends while focusing on achievements.... which led Kahneman to believe that most of us just aren't that interested in happiness. I buy it for others, but not sure I buy it when it comes to myself ;) ::QUARTZ::

#SpeakingSwagger #WatchThis #Obsessed
As you likely know from being a subscriber to this here newsletter, about half of our income comes from speaking at conferences and events around the world. It's honestly our favorite thing to do, and we're hoping that 2020 has even more speaking in store for us. Previously, we had an introductory video featuring Faris, but as now nearly all our talks are dual presentations, we needed one with Rosie. We collaborated with our friends from The Goondocks.tv to make this introductory video, which we'll start rolling out before our talk. No goldfish, or Ashleys, were harmed in the making of this video ;) (And if you might want to hire us for a talk, do be in touch...) ::THE GOONDOCKS.TV::
